Decongest our overcrowded correctional centres with focus on the awaiting trail folks.
To this end EMF is collaborating with our legal team (volunteer lawyers) who are partners with the foundation and collaborating with the NYSC Rivers state legal aids who are already doing the groundwork by liaising with the Port Harcourt prison controller on Pro-Bono legal service in a bid to get the awaiting trial folks to court for their cases for hearing.
Justice delayed is justice denied, the leaders in government may not help us as a people, but as citizens we owe it a duty to help ourselves by supporting each other, by lending our voices through advocacy and contributing our widows might to secure justice for the unlawfully detained.
To this end EMF is embarking on advocacy drive through conducting public lectures on the need to enforce Mug-Shot laws at the policing level, sensitize the public on bail is free drive initiative, by working with civil societies, relevant government agencies, churches, mosques and the public (markets, parks etc.)
Embark on fund raising activities through various schemes, this will be conducted nationwide on quarterly basis.
We have commenced with the PortHarcourt prison in Rivers state as a pilot model on how to manage processes to get inmates on awaiting trial role, once we able to firm up the processes and establish our courses of action, we would start the process of moving our activities into other states as the Lord directs
