Welcome to the Ethan-Mercy Foundation (EMF), a non-governmental charitable organization dedicated to providing transformative support to individuals who, while in prison, have embraced the path of rebirth. Established in October 2018, EMF extends a compassionate hand to those released from incarceration, offering them refuge, rehabilitation, vocational training, and empowerment for seamless reintegration into society.
At EMF, we recognize the critical role we play in breaking the cycle of recidivism that plagues correctional facilities. Too often, released individuals, rejected and stigmatized, face the risk of unemployment, pushing them back into a life of crime. Pastor Martin Agwu of the International Prison Ministry attests to the pressing need for intervention, as released prisoners seek assistance in finding their way home due to the absence of provisions.
Our mission goes beyond individual rehabilitation; EMF is committed to providing practical support services not only to prisoners and ex-prisoners but also to Christians-at-risk facing religious intolerance, along with their families. Through a comprehensive approach, we conduct vocational training programs, collaborating with organizations such as the International Prison Ministry, churches, RCCG His Love Foundation, GLOW, and other criminal justice agents.
As proud members of the National NGO Coalition on Penal Reform—a network comprising over 85 NGOs and religious bodies dedicated to prisons and penal reform in Nigeria—EMF actively engages in human rights advocacy, policy development, research, public awareness initiatives, and the provision of prison and community-based support services for targeted groups.
Our commitment extends further, as we advocate for the introduction of mug shots into our prison system and police stations. This initiative aims to prevent the unjust criminalization and exchange of innocent persons for actual criminals, promoting a fair and just legal system.
EMF stands as a beacon of hope, working tirelessly to empower individuals to overcome the challenges of post-incarceration life, fostering a society that embraces redemption and second chances. Join us in our journey to create a world where everyone, regardless of their past, can contribute positively to the future.
